Our story
Parc du Charouzech
The 4-star campsite, Parc du Charouzech, located in Aveyron, has 101 pitches including a PMR hut.
It has a surface area of 1,9 ha.
The campsite was created in 1995 on the land of Charouzech. Charouzech was, more than a century ago, a small farm lost in the heart of Aveyron. The farm was about twenty hectares in size. During the second World War, Valérie BELET, acquired 164 hectares on her own, while her husband was at the front. At the end of the Second World War, the State launched the development of hydroelectricity in order to re-equip France with energy, with EDF. In 1946, EDF came to meet Joseph and Valérie BELET, the owners of Charouzech, to announce that an artificial lake, Lake Pareloup, would be created. To do this, they were told that about 99 hectares of the farm would be drowned under water.

Gilles BELET, Valerie and Joseph’s son, recounted, not so long ago, the astonishment that this enormous rise in water levels had created on recently purchased land. However, in the 1980s, the vision changed. Gilles, who took over the Charouzech farm, and his wife Madeleine, welcomed a few families who wanted to camp by the water for a summer. The number of campers passing by and asking for the possibility of staying on their land for the night, gave rise to the idea of a campsite.
Gilles and his son Joel, who ran the Charouzech farm at the time, planned to create a 4-star campsite by the lake on the Charouzech land. This was the beginning of the adventure! The project was born in 1995. Today, the campsite is managed by Marie-Josée, the campsite manager, Joel’s wife, who is fully dedicated to the development of the campsite.
Marlène, their daughter, succeeded her father and is now a farmer at the Charouzech farm. You will be able to discover the animals of the farm with her.
Time and future generations will keep making history.
